Competitions
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
2010
Joshua
Zdybel and Phill Zdybel attended and represented Australia at the 2010
(IX Junior, XV Adult & I Senior) World Championships in Taekwon-Do ITF held in
Cheongju, Republic of Korea, between the July 4 - 8th, 2010.
The
event was preceded by the XI World Taekwon-Do Festival and Korean
Classic Open held between June 30th – July 4th, 2010.
The
World Taekwon-Do Festival brought together over 3,000 practitioners of all ages
from 62 nations, representing both the Olympic and traditional styles of
Taekwon-Do. It is the only world level tournament officially endorsed by both
international sporting federations; the World Taekwon-Do Federation (WTF) and
International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF). The 2010 ITF Taekwon-Do World
Championships brought together over a 1,000 ITF styled practitioners from 50+
nations.
Phill
Zdybel won a Silver Medal in the Senior Sparring during the World Taekwondo
Festival and a Bronze Medal in power (Kyukpa) foot, He then went on to back up that
performance to win a Bronze Medal in the ITF World Championships Senior
Heavyweight Sparring and another
Bronze Medal in Power Breaking.
Joshua
Zdybel performed very well to be awarded a Bronze Medal in the creative patterns
section of the World Taekwondo Festival. After five months of work on the
pattern and in a unique and fitting twist, Josh combined both ITF and WTF
patterns to take out the medal, in his first medal win in patterns at any level
of competition.
But
having lack of opportunities to train with the rest of the Australian team and
being Phill's major training partner for the previous six months before the
event. Joshua was involved in a training schedule that include Taekwondo
training along with extensive pool, running and cycling on a daily basis. In
hindsight Joshua achieved a lot more, all medals are a credit to his efforts and
teamwork with Phill.
We
hope that all students feel very proud of their instructors achievements and
feel rest assured that their Taekwondo development is in the hands of proven
world class Taekwondo exponents.
It
is fair to say that both boy's are very happy with a haul of five medals at
world class championship level between the two of them.
The
entire Australian Team performed exceptionally well, taking close to 50 medals a
best ever performance by an Australian Team with a very inexperienced squad who
rose to the big occasion, a full report on all World Championships and Festival
results, along with photos will be on the United ITF website (www.itftaekwondo.com/uniteditf)
in the coming days.

ITF QLD Championships
June
12th
Joshua
Luke Zdybel travelled to Ashmore on the Gold Coast QLD over the the long
weekend to compete in the 2011 Qld Taekwon-do Championships held over June 11
& 12 for his first time in a competition as a Black belt. Joshua
Achieved Medal Results in 3 out of his four category's. Power, Sparring and
Special Techniques dipping out in his forms event due to a slight lack of
concentration resulting a lost point.
Just on note travel delays by Jetstar airlines due to aircraft malfunctions on
the departure causing a three hour delay in the arrival on Friday and
obviously departure on Monday due to flight cancellations, with no
guarantee of a return flight time or day, a 36 hour rental car return road trip
made cause for a very hectic long weekend. That said the decision to attend and
partake in this event was his and he done all that was expected and performed to
the level that is required of any black belt in which all factors
considered, not only at the event but outside of it his performance was
outstanding and his remarks after the closing of the competition was " Can
we return in September for the Nationals?"

September
25th & 1st Place : Selection Trials for 2012 ITF World Champs (Gold Coast,
Qld)
Joshua Zdybel performed very well to be awarded a silver medal in the U/10's
patterns after getting through the first two rounds, a slight lack of
concentration in the final round cost him the gold.
In the special techniques he had to compete in the U/12's in the play off for
the bronze involving a spinning heel kick, which by a nick of his toe in the third
round of the play off he won. I feel this was his best effort due to being the
youngest and possibly the shortest in the division. To me obviously a taller
person as the advantage on height.
Next I could not overcome the temptation to compete having not taken part
in any event since the 2009 nationals, except the worlds in 2010. results
achieved where, silver in patterns, not my specialty but hey I take it. Silver
in sparring, a bit down on performance, but after three very heavy contested
matches and I mean heavy and not preparing properly or expecting to
achieve at all, I'll take that to. But the best to last and my favourite power
was a gold.

Activity days
Will
be every second Sunday morning of the month at 11.00am
These
have been successful in development of students and ability's and as social and
sporting outlets in 2007 & 08 as such they will continue in 2010.
On
Sunday’s when and deemed necessary, Rain hail or shine. They will involve
walks, runs, bike rides and the like. In the warmer weather hopefully a lot of
swimming will be incorporated.
In
my option both running and swimming are two very major elements that are
strongly part of the martial arts that are often overlooked
So
always bring your runners and the like. Has always locations will change, so
keep in tune for where it will be at.
If
you don’t want to run at these events then you can walk it.
For
all sporting activity days I will keep you posted by text messages. As the sport
and locations change due to the arrangements for these events being made at
training during the week on a weekly basis.
It
was good to see more turning out at these events and quite often we will have
tea lunch together afterwards. At our last dinner we had sixteen people attend.
Remember
that this is for everyone parents and the like. All members are encourage to
attend and bring their friends and family along as well to participate.
Locations
will be family orientated, so as such there will be always some where for the
children to play
This
is a good chance for all senior belts to catch up on things other than general
training, such as form work and creates a social aspect for all who are involved
in Formfighting.
Thus
giving the association a sporting and social outlook.
