Achiever of the Month Awards

For May the Senior Award goes to John Schirmer for his Dedication.

Awards 2007

Two awards where made for 2007.

The first being a Dedication Award, Senior and this was given to Numo Dizdarevic. According to my records Numo has never missed a class since he began and has always be early and on time. This is quite rare, in fact I believe that he over does it at times and to all take note on this as this can sometimes cause other phobias and the like to enter the mind subconsciously, effecting performance at events. But in all Numo a good effort, well done.

The second was an Improvement Award, Junior and this was given to Joshua Zdybel and I believe that from the start of the year, there is no doubt that he has improved considerably for a 4/5 year old

Competitions

ITF VIC Championships

Sunday, 9 March 2008

Along with those from Victoria there was a strong representation from SA, along with others from Tasmania, NSW, Qld as well as seven competitors from Singapore.

Marko Djurovic who has been learning since December 2007 placed 2nd in the senior yellow/green belt forms. Along with Jason Bloom who placed 3rd in the same event.

Marko was then watching the juniors perform their special techniques in the longest flying sidekick when thinking out loud, he said to himself, “Can I do that? I can do that”. Little moves where made and he was able to enter the senior division of the same event at the last minute as a late entry. He then went through to win the event taking out 1st place which included overcoming and performing better than the more experienced senior black Belts. That’s a great effort, combined with very positive thinking and the right attitude to win, “I can do that”.

Next came the black belt events, the senior and most experienced where the intensity increases dramatically.

Phill Zdybel entered into this event in the hypo-weight division (anyone over 80kg’s) and although more experienced than the others at 42 years was differently not as energetic or as agile. But, with reflection on the reason behind his loss at last years Nationals (2007), his 3rd national defeat in a final and along with his experience at world championship and international events was able to use this knowledge to overcome his own doubts about his age, agility and fitness level. Where he performed admirably and sensibly to take out the Victorian Title. Which despite winning national and international events he is very ecstatic about this as since his participation in Taekwon do has never won a Victorian title and is now on back to backs after taking out the ACT title last November 2006.

Power breaking was next and Nick Lee along with Phill Zdybel entered this event, the rules change a bit for this and was that the competitors pre nominated the amount of boards they would attempt to break for each technique. Both performed all the breaks successfully per breaking event, unfortunately they should have both chosen more boards per break than there competitors.

Sorting Activity days

These have been successful in development of students and ability's and as social and sporting outlets in 2007 as such they will continue in 2008.

On Sunday’s when and deemed necessary, Rain hail or shine. They will involve walks, runs, bike rides and the like. In the warmer weather hopefully a lot of swimming will be incorporated.

In my option both running and swimming are two very major elements that are strongly part of the martial arts that are often overlooked

So always bring your runners and the like. Has always locations will change, so keep in tune for where it will be at.

If you don’t want to run at these events then you can walk it.

For all sporting activity days I will keep you posted by text messages. As the sport and locations change due to the arrangements for these events being made at training during the week on a weekly basis.

It was good to see more turning out at these events and quite often we will have tea lunch together afterwards. At our last dinner we had sixteen people attend.

Remember that this is for everyone parents and the like. All members are encourage to attend and bring their friends and family along as well to participate.

Locations will be family orientated, so as such there will be always some where for the children to play

This is a good chance for all senior belts to catch up on things other than general training, such as form work and creates a social aspect for all who are involved in Formfighting.

Thus giving the association a sporting and social outlook.
